Once I saw the name of this shrimp boat, I knew the title I would give the painting. For two years beginning in 1969, Hugh Hefner hosted a variety show on late night television where a parade of celebrities would arrive at his “party” and entertain the audience. It was called Playboy After Dark. This vessel may well be heading offshore in the evening or very early morning for a hard day’s work so that we may enjoy the fruits of her and her crew’s labor, as many did watching Heffner and his guests. A very different kind of after-hours than the television program, but a productive one, nonetheless.
