There were two inspirations for this painting. The first was the cloud. I photographed it a couple of years ago from my balcony overlooking Boca Ciega Bay. I knew I wanted to use it in a painting, but I was never quite sure what to do with it. The second inspiration was various images I had seen, paintings and photos, of sailboats in different weather conditions. There was always great movement in those images. And as a sailor, I know the feeling of trying to outrun a storm. Sometimes you make it, sometimes you don't. Either way, it is a thrilling experience.
